What is a life path number?

In numerology, your life path number is the single most-quoted figure in a personal chart. It is worked out from your full date of birth, and it is often described as the general theme of a life: the strengths you tend to lean on, the lessons that keep returning, and the style you bring to work and love. There are twelve possible results on Omoy: the single digits 1 to 9 and the three master numbers 11, 22 and 33.

Numerology is a symbolic tradition, not a science. Treat your number like a character sketch you can compare with your own experience. Keep what rings true, question what doesn't, and enjoy the conversation it starts.

How we calculate it

Omoy uses the segment reduction method, and every page on this site follows the same rule:

  1. Reduce the month, the day and the year separately to a single digit by adding their digits. If 11 or 22 appears while you reduce a segment, keep it as it is.
  2. Add the three results together.
  3. Reduce that total to a single digit, but stop if you reach 11, 22 or 33. Those are the master numbers.

Worked example: 15 May 1990. The month is 5. The day is 15, so 1 + 5 = 6. The year is 1990, so 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1. Add the three parts: 5 + 6 + 1 = 12, and 1 + 2 = 3. The life path number is 3.

A master number example: 22 September 2000. The month is 9, the day 22 stays 22, and the year 2000 gives 2. The total is 9 + 22 + 2 = 33, so the result stays 33.

The calculator shows each of these steps for your own date, so you can check the arithmetic yourself.

Your birth date stays private

The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your date is never sent to a server, saved in a cookie or kept in local storage, and it disappears when you reload the page.

What to do with your number

Read the full profile for your number, then try the same calculation for a friend or partner and compare notes. Many people find it more interesting as a conversation starter than as a verdict. Numerology on Omoy is for entertainment and reflection, and it should never replace your own judgement on important decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the only correct way to calculate a life path number?

No. Numerologists use several methods, and some add all eight digits in one long line or reduce master numbers differently, which can change the result for certain dates. Omoy uses segment reduction for every page so results stay consistent here, but it is one school among several, not the only correct one.

What are master numbers?

11, 22 and 33 are called master numbers. With our method, 11 and 22 are kept when they appear while reducing the month, day or year, and the final total stops at 11, 22 or 33 instead of being reduced to 2, 4 or 6.

Why did another site give me a different number?

Usually because it uses a different reduction method. Adding all the digits at once, or reducing 11 and 22 inside the month or day, can change the outcome. Neither result is a fact about you; they are two readings of the same date.

Do you store my birth date?

No. The sum is done by code running in your browser. Nothing is sent to us, nothing is saved, and the date field is cleared when you refresh the page.

Can my life path number change?

Not under a given method, because it comes from your birth date. What can change is how you relate to it as your life and priorities shift.
